Domus-III
This is a two-story residence ideal for narrow urban lots with large rear yards, or suburban lots. The footprint is derived from a 32’-0” x 64’-0” square, organized on a 4’-0” x 4’-0” grid.
Envisioned as a duplex shot-gun massing, with a pinch in the middle. This gesture allows for the massing to break up and become visually distinguished into a front and a rear sub-massing. This is not just a formalistic move, as it also informs the interior planning, by creating a transition point in plan.
There are limited openings on the street side for maximum privacy. The floor plan becomes more porous as it transitions towards the rear, and the main indoor program areas of the lower level are organized adjacent to outdoor patios. The upper level is also arranged so that it maintains a visual connections with these outdoor nodes.
